I think you’re just proving that it is entirely subjective. If it was objectively an inferior experience, I’m confident they wouldn’t be nearly as popular as they are. I get that there are plenty of people who believe firmly that total control over their own electronics is the best experience, and I can understand that. I enjoy tinkering in a Linux machine as much as any Lemmy user. However the vast majority of people do not want to be overwhelmed with the amount of ways they can configure their devices to the point that they can’t discern one choice from another. And my iPhone does exactly what I need it to just as much as my Android did.

Yeah, marketing is definitely part of it. They make their devices sound, look, and appear like they’re some sort of luxury experience. But there’s definitely something extremely smooth about the way Apple’s suite of software works with their hardware, and how their hardware works with each other, and I appreciate that for what it is.

The crux of this suit seems to be that the DOJ believes that Apple needs to make its hardware fair to everyone that can develop on it, and make its software fair to all possible hardware that can run it, which is particularly interesting because Apple’s main product seems to be a pleasant and easy user experience that cuts through the physical barriers of the pieces of hardware it sells. And part of that user experience is the sense of security that is supposed to come with knowing that Apple is (more or less) able to decide who is allowed to access important, secure elements of their hardware.

On the software side of things, I don’t fully understand why or how the DOJ could force Apple to develop better integration support for cross-vendor hardware usage? Why do they need to go the extra mile to make an Apple Watch work well with an Android phone? Because the DOJ says so? I mean, sure I guess that would be better for everyone but it’s a weird thing to require.

Objectively superior? Superior user experience is entirely subjective, but that is the main selling point of almost everything Apple has done in the last 17 years

Full disclosure I don’t think anyone who has started teaching in the last 10-20 years will live to 90 if they continue teaching until they retire. The stress alone is likely to take a decade or two off their life.

This looks like it would be fun if it’s all about the goofy physics, and the levels are structured to support it. If the squirrel doesn’t have a chance to be launched backwards and fly off of its perch at every trigger pull then it’s a missed opportunity. And couch multiplayer would be extremely fun with this game since it would be so chaotic. Multiple squirrels getting yeeted by recoil while trying to hit each other sounds hilarious

I don’t believe that’s possible, depending on what you mean by “supreme creator.” If you’re talking about the being that created everything we can possibly perceive, witness, or even theorize, then I don’t think so, or at least I don’t think It could have always been composed of atoms.

If this being created atoms, it would be logically inconsistent to consider this being to have been consisting of what It created. That being said if, this being also created the laws of logic through which we are capable of understanding anything at all, then why not? If these laws of logic did not exist before the creator of these laws of logic, then why would this creator be bound by them?

TL;DR nobody can possibly answer this question with any grounded certainty whatsoever.

He claims to understand the plight of teachers because his mom was a high school guidance counselor 50 years ago and his sister was a tutor/substitute teacher 15 years ago. He’s 100% out of touch and if that wasn’t already clear, he told me that he didn’t believe there was a teacher shortage.

Teachers in America are paid and treated like absolutely noone cares about them. Without them, prisons would be even more overpopulated, the wealth gap would be a wealth chasm, events of bigotry would skyrocket, parents would have to pay for daycare, children would go without lunch, etc. Honestly I have a hard time imagining anything in this shithole getting significantly better without improving funding for teachers and schools. However, I think that’s the exact reason they aren’t funded-better.

My dad has told me multiple times “teachers unions are the worst thing that has happened to teachers.”

Someone very close to me is a teacher and I don’t think I’ll be able to stand hearing him say it again.

Gotcha, well there are still weekly challenges accessible through Uplay which reward you with renown (like 250 per challenge, which isn’t a lot and it’s Uplay, but it’s something). I don’t think there’s any tie between the reputation system and renown.

I do know that if you have multiple matches in a row where teammates commend you, you get on a commendation streak for which other players on your team can see an indicator so they know you’ve been a helpful or at least enjoyable teammate, and that streak also grants you a +1.0% bonus to your chances of getting an alpha pack if you win a match while on the streak. Furthermore, there are 5 reputation ranks: Dishonorable, Disruptive, Respectable, Esteemed, and Exemplary. Esteemed and Exemplary players should soon start getting more rewards like regular alpha pack drops and possibly more. Dishonorable players are already locked out of the ranked playlist.

My experience so far has not been that you are punished for trash talk, unless you’re just being an absolute dick and/or bigot, and players are not more “fake friendly” now, but instead are less toxic and less likely to rage over the mic/text chat and are also more likely to try to be helpful with callouts and planning strats for the next round. To me, that’s an all-around great change. I’m not sure if my experience alone is worth much, but I believe I have 300-500 hours in the game from the last few years alone so I would like to think I have at least some sense of the trend in the community.
