Considering the history of policing in the US its really not
Literal didn’t say that but ok
I’m a deist but even I get weirded out by how selective ppl are with the evils of religion on lemmy. Before there were universities institutions of learning were funded by churches of practically all the major religions. A museum based on famous religious academics, artists, musicians, and writers would be very interesting and would hold major historical significance.
I think a lot of ppl have issues with being critical of her because she was the second woman on the Supreme Court. Either way she was not a Saint and should be judged based on the merits or her career. Her legacy will ultimately be a shining example of why there should be term limits for justices.
I actually don’t have an issue with this for most offenders. Saving lives and property for a shortened sentence makes sense. The problem is they aren’t immediately pipelined into firefighter/emergency jobs afterwards so they continue to be a positive member of society is a problem
Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try, and the American justice system doesn’t fucking try
Because no one gives a fuck about prisoners (brown ppl) in this country. Treating prisoners as human beings means you won’t get reelected. We like to blame politicians but this is the US as a whole.
In posts on lemmy you’ll see ppl frothing at the mouth for prisoners to be executed by the state, or raped/murdered in prison. The only thing keeping this country from looking like a lynch mob is the pageantry of the courts.
