Hiker, software engineer (primarily C++, Java, and Python), Minecraft modder, hunter (of the Hunt Showdown variety), biker, adoptive Akronite, and general doer of assorted things.
But it’s not been launched. It’s kind of like all the people that were bashing Skull & Bones or Rainbow Six Extraction before they even came out.
Sure, now that they’re actually out you can say people were right but I also wonder how much of that is self fulfilling prophecy. If you literally kill the PR for a product/game, it’s really hard for any studio or company to come back from that.
Nowhere has this studio said the game as it has been seen by players is “done” or the launch product.
I don’t get why people are always so negative when a game is publicly developed for such a long time. It doesn’t really matter so long as the launch product is good.
It does list Saber Belarus, Saber St. Petersburg, and Stuntworks even in the English page. There are plenty of non-Russian subsidiary studios.
You’re right in the sense they do have some presence there though I guess. I’m not sure what the extent of operation of those offices would be at this point given sanctions.
I can definitely understand not wanting to take any chances with supporting Russia since you said you’re from Ukraine.
That said, might be a bit more correct to call them a Russia supporting company vs a Russian company going forward.
There may be some Russian employees. The founders were using Russian artists at least in the early days per Wikipedia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber_Interactive).
Saber interactive is based in Florida … So I can see the confusion (😉) but no, they’re not Russians
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber_Interactive
It originally did employ some Russian artists though it seems/wouldn’t be shocking if there was still a relationship there.
It’s really one of the better options in terms of compromise.
Server side is always the best, but server side is hard for a lot of situations…
I think there’s a lesson in there about teaching people that weren’t around for the formation of a movement about why targeted movements exist.
It’s not just with kids but with people that are tuned out… I think too many people fall through the cracks into white power, toxic masculinity, incel groups, etc because on the surface the questions are of course…
“well why don’t I have a support group for X? what makes that group of people special? why do they get their own day?”
Like yeah, if nobody’s ever explained what women have historically faced to you, feminism and girl power are especially strange concepts to confront.
Maybe having a more positive masculinity movement actually wouldn’t be a bad idea just to help people that are feeling a little lost and prevent them from finding “answers” in the wrong places(?)
Microsoft even with Activision Blizzard would not have a captured market. Valve, Crytek, Sony (which now holds Bungie), Epic, Electronic Arts, CD Projekt Red, Take-Two, and Ubisoft are all still quite potent AAA capable studio just in the PC space … along with tons of independent studios (e.g., Ghost Ship Games, Shiro Games, Hello Games, Re-Logic).
The Microsoft internal doc leak said they’re mostly after King Games (mobile games) anyways. I’d wager at worst Microsoft will let the traditionally Activision & Blizzard studios do their things… at best they’ll clean up the executive teams and let the devs “play” a bit more with the IPs.
Mojang has flourished under Microsoft.
Honestly I’m okay with this one, but it’s mostly because Activision Blizzard has great IP with some seriously awful management … and Microsoft actually has been doing much better in that department for games.
When you’re dealing with that vintage of software it’s not a matter of rebuilding the program to target a different architecture. You’re talking about emulation.
They probably instead were opting to remanufacture chips with support for the original instruction set and none of the quirks of emulation.
