So this is hardly an AI-specific issue. It’s always been something to be on guard for. As others in this thread have pointed out, Stalin was airbrushing out political rivals from photos back in the 30s. Heck damnatio memoriae goes back as far as history itself does. Ancient Pharoahs would have the names of their predecessors chiseled off of monuments so they could “claim” them as their own work.

Yeah, but this doesn’t put any restrictions on stuff, it just adds a label to it.

I’ve lost track, is AI a good thing today or a bad thing?

This is just another gripe about how Microsoft is putting AI into everything. If it’s really just about the position of a button (which apparently can be changed in the settings if you still want it there) it’s even more petty. Certainly not worth posting about on a general technology community.

I must admit, “Linux becomes the refuge of luddites” was never on any bingo card I could have conceived of for 202X.

This exchange was from 2004, when Zuckerberg first launched Facebook from his college dorm. Facebook has never pretended to be anything other than what it is, people keep giving it their information, and then they make a surprised-Pikachu face and complain when Facebook does exactly what they’ve always done with it. What Facebook said they would do in the TOS that they agreed to.

I don’t understand all the negativity. An integrated AI assistant in a text editor sounds like it could be amazing.

She shows great wisdom to just roll with whatever nonsense the PC says they can do.

Unfortunately based on what I know of history it seems likely that humanity won’t ever be on track to build a post-work egalitarian utopia until we’ve got no other option left. So I support going ahead with this tech because that seems like a good way to force the issue. The transition period will be rough, but better than stagnation IMO.

It may be that this feels more sensitive than it is because this is literally a comic about some characters with low senses of self worth who are fretting about other characters being “better” than they are.

@ahdok, just so you know, I personally didn’t see anything wrong with the writing in this comic. I’m left with a strong sense of RomCom “oh my gosh just talk to each other!” Anticipation. :)
