As far as I understand, you’d store eg tracking data in the POD. That would allow apps/services to give you better recommendations or personalized ads. The only party with any interest in writing to the POD is the end-user, but their interest is tiny. Better recommendations, so what? Advertisers prefer to keep their data private to have an edge over the competition.

Training something like this costs millions. It’s not going to be useful to many people because of it’s size/the cost of doing anything with it.

I don’t think that giving alms justified the existence of feudal Lords. In the same way, I think the fact that nation states can’t keep up with the research expenditure of a few rich men (think space travel), shows us that we have a problem. That said, it does represent a fairly generous donation to science, start-ups, or whatever.

You don’t really sound like someone who’d be happy to have a payment system hard-coded into their browser. I don’t think it would help, either. Just as with ads you’d be monetizing clickbait and not journalism.

That’s been part of HTTP since at least 1992. His w3c wanted to make micropayments part of the web. The reason it did not take off is that no one had a use for it. The web was too cheap to meter.

Law-makers wanted to outlaw all kinds “hacking” even involving future technology. If people were prosecuted for jail-breaking ChatGPT, that would probably be within the intention of the makers of these laws.

Fun fact: The US hacking law, CFAA, was inspired by the 1983 movie War Games, in which an out-of-control AI almost starts a nuclear war. If you travelled back in time, and told them that people will trick AIs to answer questions on bomb-making, they’d probably add the death penalty. In fact, if reactions to AI in this Technology community are any guide, they might still get around to that.

The FTC is worried that the big tech firms will further entrench their monopolies. They are doing a lot of good stuff lately; an underappreciated boon of the Biden Presidency. Lina Khan looks to be really set on fixing decades of mistakes.

They use the bomb-making example but mostly “unsafe” or even “harmful” means erotica. It’s really anything, anyone, anywhere would want to censor, ban, or remove from libraries. Sometimes I marvel that the freedom of the (printing) press ever became a thing. Better nip this in the butt, before anyone gets the idea that genAI might be a modern equivalent to the press.

A better example would be something like The Anarchist Cookbook. Possession is illegal in some places.

It is almost certainly illegal in various countries already. By using such prompts you are bypassing security to get “data” you are not authorized to access.
