Start collecting physical and/or local digital copies of media that you enjoy. Build a library before all the streaming platforms get completely enshitified and the sale of physical media ends.

Depends on whose mass estimates you like… it might have a core of high density material in the reactor.
If not you’re probably right though, escape velocity would be pretty low.
Hmm, it’s not a big deal for the Star Destroyer to just eject the waste… they can just fly away from it after. But the Death Star is the size of a moon… if they just ejected waste the same way, it would end up orbiting the station… in a few months you’d have a cloud of trash around it.
Maybe they compact trash so that it can be more easily shipped out? Or maybe they have some kind of launching system that fires compacted trash out fast enough to escape the Death Star’s gravity?
In the books it was literally built by slave labor… so yes.
2·6 months agoIt wouldn’t surprise me if there was some internal discussion at Reddit of what happened to Digg, and in preparation for alienating large groups of users they intentionally put some things in place to artificially inflate user activity.
Yep, I’m a former Digg user who left at the v4 launch because of this exact thing - they made ads indistinguishable from normal user posts.
People are saying this isn’t that big a deal, that Reddit won’t just die after this. The thing is, Digg still exists but it’s a shadow if its former self and nobody cares about it. It’s present, but its presence isn’t relevant. This change is likely to push more of the users who submit quality content to Reddit away from it, degrading the site community even more than last year.
Lesson not learned, apparently.

1·8 months agoThis is one of my favorites to share. It’s a 3D engine with raytracing with no VBA scripting - all of the calculations are done internally with spreadsheet math.
Excel can do anything, including so many things it shouldn’t.

I remember at the time people were speculating that Russia would call it off or change plans because their operation had been so thoroughly blown, while a lot of global media was just accusing the US of warmongering. Russia just plowed ahead with their invasion anyway.
