Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.

Maybe to elaborate: Its the worst format because its used for all kinds of things that are not “out of line”. The original dialogue fit well to it and I liked the scene, but how is it out of line to make a silly numbers joke?

Now if you made some politically incorrect joke with it, sure. But this, no, terrible execution.

  • I have said it before, yes, people might leave. But the kind of people that stick so long to a dying platform are the ones that will never make it to Lemmy, Mastodon or whatever fediverse alternative you have.

None of these federated platforms employs any dark pattern algorithms to keep users engaged and clicking as much as possible. The kind of user that stays until the enshittification is not bearable anymore will not like the way the fediverse operates. So they go to some other place. Maybe its Facebook again, maybe Instagram, who knows.

  • This practise is a remnant of the printing times. Papers would get accepted and then printed in a later issue. But once the online publishing started, this kind of was not necessary anymore. Which lead to online publication before print, but somehow still using the print date for the article because a lot of journals still have physical prints.

That said, I don’t know if this journal does that and then if not it is simply stupid. They might do it because they limit “online” issues in size, like the printed ones. Which is idiotic if you don’t actually print anything.
