Well, kinda. Reddit’s main commodity is its user content. They earn money when people go to the site from Google, see ads, and if they like the content enough, maybe register and keep feeding the beast.
Removing the content people go to Reddit to access deprives Reddit of some engagement that they would profit from, however small or negligible it may be.
It may be inconvenient to the end user, but that’s the point. Go somewhere other than Reddit for answers.
Me the people
It’s harder in modern hospitals; they tag each child with an ID band the moment (like, within seconds) they’re out of mom which corresponds to the mother’s own ID band. Not to say it’s 100% foolproof in case a baby is improperly tagged, but you have a likelier chance of being implanted with the wrong embryo during IVF than of a baby swap happening after birth these days.
I get that. I suppose in this case I just don’t sympathize with the “enemy of my enemy” perspective because Putin and the neo-aristocratic oligarchs who surround him are still enemies of Marxist ideology.
That’s not correct, though. MLs don’t support fascist regimes.
Well, some people who call themselves Marxist-Leninists do. Those are Tankies.
A rational ML person won’t support fascism, but there are a lot of so-called ML adherents who yearn so greatly for the trappings of the USSR to the extent that they don’t even care about its founding ideology; they care about putting a man into space, about strong nuclear arsenals, and about dismantling the corrupt West. Hence why so many Tankies fall in line behind the Putin regime for no reason other than that he is aesthetically “the glory days of Russia” and has made himself an enemy of the West, despite all of the fascism which fills the gaps.
Who determines what is considered good faith, though? Who sets the line between fact and fiction?
One of the issues we encounter in this sort of scenario is that the media has a habit of forcing “two sides” perspectives of issues that have one objectively correct answer because the topic is needlessly politicized. News stories about the effects of climate change should not be held up next to counterarguments that question the validity/motivations of the scientific community, but they are anyways because one party believes that they can legislate truth.
Whichever party is in power at the time is the one that gets to control how this nebulous standard would be applied, and so you’re only one Christofascist movement away from climate change being a debatable subject and religious doctrine being indisputable fact.
“I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Android, is in fact, GMS/Android, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Google plus Android. AOSP is not an ecosystem unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Google ecosystem made useful by Google Play Services, monetization models, and mandatory telemetry components comprising a full OS as defined by Alphabet.”
unfortunately around 40% our population is unable to comprehend and discuss complex issues
“Why we gotta pay so much in taxes to fund schools? Schools ain’t never done nothin for me.”
“Linux-based? Like Android?”
“WE DO NOT SPEAK THE NAME OF THE IMPURE”
Other than it being anti-cheat software failing to do the one thing it was made to do?
America is the only big country in the world that works the way it does. Almost every country is an ethnic monolith.
I’ll just disagree a tad there. A lot of the Americas are racially diverse, not just the US. Canada, Brazil, Cuba, just to name a few, have similar ratios of racial demographics to the US (maybe Cuba to a lesser degree, you don’t hear of many Asian Cubans).
If we’re talking specifically big ones, Brazil still fits the bill. Brazil is not without its own problems, however.
Other than a few pockets of blue, Western Massachusetts is very rural and leans conservative. I try to avoid going out that far if I can help it.
These kids would be right at home in the South.
Minor correction: the companies are beholden to capital, a lot of which happens to be supplied by foreign powers. Facebook won’t create Russian propaganda, but they’ll gladly take piles of cash to host targeted misinformation from the Russian government to sway elections.
The US government seems to think that the Chinese government wouldn’t likewise just pay TikTok to host the content they want anyways.
I can only think that TikTok’s status as a state-affiliated company might have something to do with it being singled out.
In practice, however, other social media platforms are controlled by capital and state actors have a lot of capital to leverage, so there’s effectively no difference other than China can do for free via TikTok what Russia and the US have to pay for on any other social media platform.
This is true. Cambridge Analytica wasn’t that long ago, either.
They misspoke, he’s a Market Leninist
Enemy of my enemy logic, basically. There are people who have such a disdain for the west that they will lionize any political figures who also hate the west, no matter how contradictory their stated ideals are.
But think of the shareholders!
