The links in this post are for funding the two developers who work full time on Lemmy, the software.
The instances are sponsored separately via their own contribution links. E.g. look at the sidebar on lemmy.world and you’re probably gonna find them.
For the system to work we need to fund both the software development and the instances. Currently the software development funding is further behind as it still doesn’t cover two modest salaries. On the other hand I think lemmy.world is sustainably funded. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
If you’re broke, don’t give. I think there’s enough of us who can afford a few bucks a month and we should get more people to do it.
I think the lesson that should be beginning to crystallise in people’s minds these days is that we have to pay. If we don’t, we get Facebook, Digg, Reddit, etc. We get inevitable enshitification. I mentioned Wikipedia because I think paying for it has sunk into many people’s minds already. And generally we don’t need everyone to pay. If the ones that can afford to spare a few bucks a month, do, it’ll be enough.
The Lemmy project - yes. You want to check if your home instance is sustainably funded too. I think lemmy.world for example is well funded. So is lemmy.ca - my home instance.
The official Liberapay link now points to https://liberapay.com/Lemmy/.
I think it’s only donations to the development team. Summing up the donors across Liberapay, Open Collective and Patreon gives close to the number in the title.
Wikipedia managed to do it on donations only. Federated social media is similar in many ways and I think it’s entirely possible that we may get development and hosting to be funded in a similar fashion.
Word. The large instances are well funded at the moment. I think the funding is lacking on the developer side. Subscribe if you can. I have. :)
If you’re not paying with real money or work, someone else is, or you’re paying with something else.
And it might get worse after the end of the war, if the dissenters who will bring up the atrocities committed are the minority.
Donald Trump’s new joint fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee directs donations to his campaign and a political action committee that pays the former president’s legal bills before the RNC gets a cut, according to a fundraising invitation obtained by The Associated Press.
Surprised Pikachu faces all around the GOP
Leave this person to get it on with this.
☝️A more accurate title based on the discussion in this thread.
So could be that people with higher risk already had higher risk before changing their eating. Sounds likely since IF is frequently used as a diet.
I like this explanation.
Among people with existing cardiovascular disease, an eating duration of no less than 8 but less than 10 hours per day was also associated with a 66% higher risk of death from heart disease or stroke.
This is odd. 10 hours is for example breakfast at 10AM and dinner by 8PM which to me sounds like a typical eating pattern. Suspicious.
This is false and understanding why it’s false is important in order for us to be able to do the right choices which allow us to both keep inflation in check and avoid pointless deep recessions or depressions. You can find a decent overview here. Creating money (multiple ways, check video) is required for a growing economy to keep prices stable (inflation close to 0). This isn’t new either. It was done even in ancient Greece with silver as it is easy to see the need for it once you have all the variables in front of you. The problem isn’t with money creation per se, it’s with the amount but most importantly its distribution. Where does it go. Does it go towards the creation of an additional bag of chip which we have little real constraint to do, or does it go towards a house in an area where there’s bidding wars for houses and no new houses can be built.
No there are other things that changed too you just ignore them. The picture you paint is simple, easy to understand and wrong.
If you’re already using an Android phone with Play Store on it, the additional exposure through the Chromecast is probably not significant. Otherwise, in addition to the other suggestions, you could grab an Android capable board from HardKernel for example and run plain Android TV on it. For example the ODROID-C4. It’s got nearly identical hardware to the CCwGTV. The setup is obviously more elaborate.
Why am I feeling it isn’t going to be a repeat of the standards-driven co-operative development supported by open source software infrastructure that occurred during the decade and a half after the dotcom bubble… I have a feeling it would resemble the pre mass computing world of AT&T, GE and IBM.
