  • I had a friend a long time ago who was arrested for shoplifting and was unable to post bail due to this being like a second or third charge. He was evicted from his apartment while he was in. He released his key to me from jail, and another friend and I went and moved out as much of his important stuff as we could, and the apartment complex threw away the rest. If we hadn’t been there to help him, he would’ve lost literally everything, computer, passport, guitar, you name it.

  • The reality of his compensation package is a lot more nuanced. The 9 figure number is eye popping, but he’s being paid less than $2 million over 2023-2024, and almost all of the rest is contingent upon a successful IPO and then reaching a set of (incredibly unrealistic) stock valuation benchmarks. Reddit’s stock has to hit something like $45/share for him to see 8 figures and $90/share for him to realize the full amount.

I’m in no way defending this pay package or his shitty behavior, just pointing out that he’s not just getting handed $200 million outright

  • I get you on this. A lot of people really struggle to maintain empathy with people they may otherwise find despicable, but to me, increasing empathy in the world among and for literally everyone is a paramount goal. Take this example: A huge percentage of men who sexually assault children were sexually assaulted themselves as children. It’s easy to dehumanize someone in this situation, but the reality is they have been both a victimizer and a victim in their lives. People are way more complex than our present instant judgment-based society allows for.

All that said, all Kyle Rittenhouse has to do is shut his ugly goddamn mouth if he wants to stop getting lambasted by the public.

  • This order is to inform the monitor before even attempting to obtain a bond. I’m no expert on the law, but I think the monitor is there to watch and keep a record of the Trump Org’s actions, and not to pre-approve actions the Trump Org takes. In that vein, this order would be a departure from typical oversight, requiring a level of notice before even taking an action. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Either way, I think it’s great to have eyes on this, and I imagine this is a direct result of Trump’s attorneys providing zero (0) evidence they’ve made any attempt to secure a bond
