If I ask an LLM something like “is there a git project that does <something I’d describe in natural language but not keywords>” or is there a Windows program that does X, it may make up the answers, but at least I can verify that via a search engine. If I try to Google that (that’s theoretical, I don’t use Google), I’m going to end up on a page full of ads that is filled with trap links that lead to malware, top 10 lists with the same repeated content and all the other shit the internet has become. I kind of don’t mind the hallucinations relative to the ads. What a time to be alive though.

Oh sure, every 4 years Lucy comes out with the football and taunts you to take a run at it and I’m the one not being realistic. It’s total horseshit to disappear on an issue every 4 years except when you think it might help you in an election to wave it around.

Yeah, so, you talk about the difference between skepticism and denialism and then here’s a bunch of denialism. Competition is good overall but the ruling (Apple must open to more competition) is only more competition in a very narrow view. What the other poster is saying is that while the smaller universe of iOS may be opened to competition, if it ends up flooding iOS with nothing-but-Chrome that could have broad, deleterious effects, which you seem to not want to acknowledge (that’s the denialism part).

YES, opening iOS brings “more competition” into iOS, but also, zooming out one click, also enhances the web monopoly that Chrome is trying to build which will possibly have the long-term consequence of forcing everyone to migrate over to one browser only (Chrome). Not because users think its the best, but because it is so ubiquitous that no one develops for any other browser. Don’t you see the unintended risk of feeding Google’s monopoly is also bad?

Honestly, the shorter way to say all of this is “the AI” is supposed to make everyone a coder. “The AI” is supposed to make everyone an artist. Who is doing more coding or art than they used to? I know some people are (I am) but I know most people aren’t, even a little bit. That’s how you know it’s a tool for people who want it, or wanted it before it existed, but it’s not really driving any new demand at the level that would replace the experts already in place who can use the tool.
