AFAIK they removed the phone number requirement from people who own OW1 a few weeks after release

We also got some lore details that confirmed the DLC takes place in the present and it’s just a different place

In regards to the DLC’s story being about the past, the interviewer asks if this means that the DLC takes place in the past, and Miyazaki denies this, saying that it takes place in the same timeframe as the main story, and the past of the Land of Shadows and Queen Marika is told in the same way that the history of the Shattering War is told in the main game.

It’s still in alpha and has a long way to go if anyone was thinking about downloading it now.

It’s certainly alarming and I hope they make a statement for it. The idea that any EAC game could have remote code exploit means anyone playing these games could be under risk of getting hacked.
