One of the most extensive and prolific Barred Owl locations I’ve ever explored. I’ve seen Owls in 15 separate wooded areas of this enormous and amazing State Park down here in south-central Minnesota next to where major interstates I-90 and I-35 cross. If you’ve never seen an owl and really want to, you have a pretty favorable chance to see one here if you put in the time and miles hiking at Myre-Big lsland State Park.

As a kid I always thought they were saying “Bard” owls, like Shakespeare.

Although I recognize the “Barred” origin, I move to rename them thusly.

Oh, the stories they could tell from flying around stealthily at night, peeping in all the windows… And of course they can be very vocal.

      Owls would make great bards!
