  • I agree. Talking in such broad terms leaves a lot of holes. Since we’re talking pie in the sky stuff maybe: have congressional service require divesting oneself of all past and future funds beyond X amount with the understanding that they have to have increased scrutiny in all financial matters- like no privacy. I can think of a lot of problems with this but could it be better than the current system? I don’t see how it couldn’t be a bit of an improvement over them making $174k and yet being hundreds millionaires from stock trading for themselves and family members over years of insider information.

  • No. The right to strike is still denied to railroad workers. (And air traffic controllers which is why I referenced Genocide Joe being like Ronnie who fired ALL the air traffic controllers when they went on strike because it was already illegal for them to do so)

You might be thinking about how further negotiations were done to get some concessions from the companies in regards to sick time.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/most-unionized-us-rail-workers-now-have-new-sick-leave-2023-06-05/

WASHINGTON, June 5 (Reuters) - More than 60% of U.S. unionized railroad workers at major railroads are now are covered by new sick leave agreements, a trade group said Monday. Last year railroads came under fire for not agreeing to paid sick leave during labor negotiations. In December, President Joe Biden signed legislation to block a national U.S. railroad strike that could have devastated the American economy after some unions voted against the deal over a lack of paid sick

As we all know, 60% is passing…?

So, by contact, not by law, some railroad workers get 4 days of paid sick leave. (some get more, some can convert other paid time off towards sick days) By law in New Jersey most workers get up to 40 hours of paid sick time per year.

And this doesn’t touch on how farm and immigrant workers get screwed over. I have to limit the discussion somewhat.
