We all thought Trump‘s criminal trials or knocking off him the ballot would be the answer to prevent all of this, but in a little over four days, the State of New York might force him into bankruptcy. It will be very interesting to see the effects of that on his campaign and future chances to be president.
I could see an armed sit-in in response to a Trump property being seized by the courts, a la Bundy Ranch. They’ve already been spinning this case as baseless partisan suppression of Trump and we know they will stoop to violence if things don’t go their way.
I can’t think of anything that would make the NYPD happier. Unlike the Capital Police in DC or the well-trained and restrained National Guard, the NYPD is the size of other countries’ armies and just as well equipped. If those MAGA crazies try that shit in New York City, they won’t know what fucking hit them.
Although, to be realistic, almost every Trump protest in NYC has amounted to no more than a dozen or so goofballs showing up and just walking around, aimlessly. and then the hundred or so looky-loos and press people show up to laugh at them.
SomeMost of those that work forcesCops don’t like to put the boot in nearly as hard with right wing civil unrest. They know their friends are in the crowd.
My takeaway from the the article is basically:
- Trump says he will do terrible things, and then plays it off like a joke when confronted.
- Those who have worked with Trump say he almost certainly will try those terrible things.
- It’s more likely than not that the changes Trump wants would take more than 4 years to accomplish if they are allowed at all, so Trump is more likely to be useless than dangerous.
Here’s hoping in 2028 the bar is higher for serious candidates than “The candidate probably won’t be allowed to be as terrible as they say they’ll be.”
Edit: Would anyone be willing to tell me how to get a full line of space in between the end of a bulleted list and a new paragraph (which I’m missing in this post)? I spent some time looking and tried double space, double enter, , etc and nothing I looked up worked. Thanks in advance for saving me from my own ignorance.Thank you Lemmy folks for your help! The 4 years part … This is why I kinda have faith in America.
Our process is so fucking slow and obnoxious through bureaucracy that even a relative bull in a china shop can’t fully dismantle the shop.
The thing is, the common thought Trump will abide by bureaucratic processes is utterly wrong. He and his cronies even made abundantly clear they will replace any opposition starting day one, and declared they have 50.000 people chosen and lined up to fill the newly empty government positions. They have no intention wait out approvals or discussions about new laws or rules.
He’ll sign an executive order making instant sacking of any bureaucrat possible, those that try to block or slow him down will be forcibly removed.
As I keep bringing up, Hitler did not come into full power over years, no it took mere months and a healthy week of literally murdering all of his then political opposition to do it. Then all that came from Hitler was a denial along “I do not believe my people did this” and the whole country’s government and judicial system was too afraid to not crown him Supreme leader.
The Trump camp is following the exact same roadmap… including Trump declaring his current “Jan 6th hostages” to be innocent of all crimes.
So please do not underestimate his threats or think he’ll need far more than 4 years to accomplish this, as soon as he able to claim the election in his favor (because hey, the republicans are going to refuse to certify any other outcomes, unlike previously in 2020) he will be beyond existing laws and judges. And apparently it will be all legal because it is the certification that matters, not the amount of votes.
And the very minute he gets an actual armed force to occupy the congress or white house, “as a defensive measure”, well good luck getting him out and undoing whatever laws/decrees he started writing.
Even if he fails completely he will still do untold damage, just like he did the first time round. Putin’s aim is not to control the US. Even he knows he can’t do that. He wants too weaken the US by sowing chaos and in that he’s already been successful beyond belief.
Whether or not you get a full line break between the end of a list and the start of the next paragraph is up to the markdown renderer being used. Some mobile apps will show a full line between a list and a paragraph.
Thank you for letting me know, appreciate it :)
Here’s a non-recommended, non-standard, bad practice work-around:
- After a bullet list,
- put a hash tag (“#”, the code for header) on its own line.
This looks somewhat like a blank line in a browser, but who knows what’ll happen in other apps. (Click the “view source” icon for this example.)
At least on my Firefox browser that worked. You rock!
- It’s more likely than not that the changes Trump wants would take more than 4 years to accomplish if they are allowed at all, so Trump is more likely to be useless than dangerous.
Check out project 2025, seems very dangerous to me: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/conservatives-aim-to-restructure-u-s-government-and-replace-it-with-trumps-vision
- It’s more likely than not that the changes Trump wants would take more than 4 years to accomplish if they are allowed at all, so Trump is more likely to be useless than dangerous.
Ah yes, because last time he definitely left after the four years were up without any dangerous issues.
“You are our shame.”
