  • Oh the turkey theme, I almost forgot. I recently visited my aunt who moved to a place just outside Baltimore, and she has an elderly Appalachian neighbor there that we visited. Mounted fish, Jesus, wood paneling, brown carpet, even a CRT television. Full on PTSD flashbacks hahaha

Oh man, so when I was a kid (I’m approaching age 50) there was this whole trend among the Appalachian grandmas to have their homes decorated in theme with one type of animal or a certain brand of trinket.

One of my grandmothers, it was tigers. Whole house everything was tigers. Another it was these little ceramic angel/cherub figures. And of of them had a friend with a house full of owl stuff like these pictures.

This sends me right back, and it’s definitely unsettling memories. I always found the themed house thing a little creepy.

  • Rad tech is rad! We need all the help we can get, trust me. I hope that turns out to be a good, stable career for her.

And yeah, not passed yet. Oregon finally joined Cali with ratios, so I’m hoping PA can make it three. I think up here in Massachusetts, we’ll follow suit soon after that. But the hospital lobbying is intense any time there’s a push for mandated nursing ratios.

And I also love my ferals. Back in the day, I volunteered with a trap & release neuter/spay clinic. Lots of times with hilarious feral colonies.

  • Sorry you had a trash first day back at work. If it’s any consolation, I’m laying here on day two home from work with norovirus that I caught from a patient, so that’s been fun.

National Aviary! How did I not know about this place?? I’m originally from Ohio/WV. I’ll have to arrange to take my sister’s kids on a trip from Charleston, WV to Pittsburgh sometime to see this place. Looks amazing, thanks for sharing.

I love that it occurred to you to notice smells. That’s perfect, immersive experience to share with us. Also really surprised you could feel a Screechie’s claws through that glove?! Tiny it may be, but apex predator nonetheless.
