That description presumes our temporal dimension is their fourth spatial dimension though. It also makes meaningful interaction basically impossible.

If it works more like Flatland and we have a shared temporal dimension then they’re simply able to perceive us, inside and out, from what we would consider every direction simultaneously. In much the same way that we can see the inside and full circumference of a two dimensional circle.

  • Watching movies and playing AAA games is normal, sure.

Downloading 4K BDRIPs and a new AAA game every week definitely isn’t. Most people probably stream their movies, and even those prone to pirating their content are likely downloading re-encoded copies, not full sized BDRIPs.

On top of that, it’s not like you have to sit there and wait for it. You’re only really saving that time if it’s time you were going to spend sitting and staring at your download progress instead of doing something else.

I’m not saying edge cases don’t exist where someone would notice a real difference in having >100Mbps, but it’s just that, an edge case.

  • That’s not what a tax write-off is. The IRS didn’t give them any money. They just acknowledged that WB spent $30 million on something that was business related. Literally every dollar that a business spends on itself to continue running is a “tax write-off”. The 165 million that Interstellar cost was also written-off against their taxes to reduce their tax burden. Businesses are taxed on their profits, not their revenue.

  • Right, but your service provider has nothing to do with that difference. The fact that the entity you’re contacting on the other end of the connection is providing a degraded experience isn’t an internet service delivery problem.

Your internet service, which is what net neutrality is concerned with, is distinct from services on the internet. In the same way that your phone service has nothing to do with the quality of service you get from HP’s telephone support line.

What’s especially wild to me is that even the position of “it’s ambiguous” gets almost as much pushback as trying to argue that one of them is universally correct.

Last time this came up it was my position that it was ambiguous and needed clarification and had someone accuse me of taking a prescriptive stance and imposing rules contrary to how things were actually being done. How asking a person what they mean or seeking clarification could possibly be prescriptive is beyond me.

Bonus points, the guy telling me I was being prescriptive was arguing vehemently that implicit multiplication having precedence was correct and to do otherwise was wrong, full stop.
