Spreading election lies (and that’s what these deepfakes are), needs to be a felony, not protected by the 1st amendment.

Republicans have weaponized misinformation and protected their operators from scrutiny. It will never be punished the way it should.

Spreading false voting information – like the example in the article about fake phone calls saying polling places are closed – is a crime in the US, whether or not it’s online, it’s just hot particularly well enforced.

They should do one where they let a guy who led an insurrection against the government run for president a few years later.

It’s not even original, a similar thing happened in the 1930s in Germany.

No we’re not. The US right now, is WW2 era Germany as far as fascism goes. It will play out the same way, Trump will probably win or steal the election. And as an American, I’m so frustrated that not many other people recognize this. Still gonna vote… But man do I have an extremely bad feeling about this outcome.

If you think that the US is like WW2 era Germany in terms of facism, I doubt you know enough about WW2 era Germany…

Its a slope… Once you begin slipping, you kinda slip all the way. The US has been slipping for a looong time.

Slippery slope is literally the name of the fallacy.

It’s not the big, loud disinformation that’s the most worrying; at least that can be addressed head-on. It’s the subtle, divisive manipulation that’s been going on for years that has us disowning family and flirting with civil war.

You know where this is going, can’t trust the vote of a misinformed voter, so… No vote until the government figures out what information you need for deciding on further changes to government.
