I’ve stopped caring really, humanity can go extinct. We don’t deserve this world. It will be a much better place when it’s just deers and wolves frolicking about.

News@lemmy.world•Women pinned cougar during 'hand-to-hand combat' to save friend trapped in its jaws
92·2 years agoIf anything this proves his point even more.
27 fatalities out of 126 attacks is an insane death rate. I guarantee you it’s much lower for bears, and maybe wolves too.
This would be because, like the posted stated, bears don’t have the intention to kill you they just want you to leave. If they attack it’s less likely you will die from it.
Cougars attack with the intent to kill you though, hence the higher death rates.
Yes it’s rare, but the poster never said it was common.

News@lemmy.world•Women pinned cougar during 'hand-to-hand combat' to save friend trapped in its jaws
16·2 years agoI was stalked by a cougar once while walking my dog. It was evening and we were on our regular walking trail with a headlamp and flashlight.
Then I see a pair of eyes reflecting back at me about 20m into the trees, just staring straight at us.
My dog is clueless because he’s just sniffing at bushes to pee on.
Immediately I start walking backwards, never taking the flashlight off the eyes, and they start following us all the way back to our property completely silent until they eventually disappear once we get to the lit up pathway. Luckily we were only about 400m into our walk.
snapped a photo with flash to try and see if I could make out if it were a deer or not, but deer don’t try and follow you lol

4·2 years agoThere are so many different journals out there it’s hard to keep track of which ones are actually reputable anymore.
Almost need some overarching scientific body that can review and provide ratings for different journals to be able to even cite from the information within or something.
Like science and nature would be S-tier, whereas this journal should be F-tier apparently and people shouldn’t even be allowed to cite articles found within it for their own papers.

Movies@lemmy.world•Millennials, Gen-Z Want Original Movies and TV, Not Remakes — SurveyEnglish
1·2 years agoNot sure, I like watching movies but I’m no movie buff. I don’t analyze movies critically for art and style, I just like it or I don’t. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie from earlier than 2000 that I can say I’ll rewatch it again sometime because I loved it so much. Tried a few here and there but they just never caught my interest much.
Probably the oldest movie that I can actually say I loved and will rewatch every few years is 28 days later from 2002. I would even struggle to name any movie older than that.

25·2 years agoI wouldn’t mind remakes of old movies, because personally I’m not going to go watch a movie that was made in the 80s even if it is a classic or was amazing at the time.
I don’t care for remakes of movies that are like 8-10 years old.
